Wow...I found another new KISS website... Great Stuff for KISS collectors. I have been lazy, but it is time to get the KISS discussions going again.

A little info on KISS unplugged courtesy of Wikipedia & Amazon:
On August 9, 1995, hard rock band Kiss performed on MTV Unplugged in what fans consider the beginning of the eventual Kiss Reunion Tour. It also marked the only time the original lineup performed live without their trademark makeup, other than at Ace Frehley's wedding, and was also the only time Frehley and Criss shared a stage with Eric Singer and Bruce Kulick. Further, it was the first time Eric Singer had part of a lead vocal (shared with Peter Criss on Nothin' To Lose). MTV did an outstanding job recording this amazing reunion back in 1995 when for the first time in over 16 years the original members of KISS (Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Peter Criss and Ace Frehley) got back together and with current members of KISS recorded an unforgettable night at the MTV studios in NYC. The LP version of this album was pressed on BLACK vinyl and YELLOW marbled vinyl

I just got off the phone with fanfire. I ordered my KISS Sonic Boom Sets on Feb 7th, 2010. Today, May 11th, Fanfire told me that the albums are still 8-10 weeks out from being shipped. I am so glad that I am not one of those that resold this on ebay without having it in hand. Hopefully in 8-10 weeks we will be able to get our Sonic Boom Package!

LICK IT UP

“September 18, 1983 is a day that will go down in Kisstory. It was then that Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Vinnie Vincent, and Eric Carr took off their signature makeup and revealed themselves on MTV. LICK IT UP was released and a new chapter unfolded”

I try to look at the KISS albums in terms of collectivity rather than content. In regards to Lick it up by KISS, I would recommend that a collector focus upon 4 LP versions. I will probably speak of the two picture discs & the 12” singles at a later date on this blog.
The 4 LP versions are: American, Japanese False Front Obi Version, German/European ZZ Logo Design & the Bootleg “Black Diamond.”
*The American version is easy to find in good condition and can still be found in clean acceptable condition for around $10 each. You should expect to pay between $15-$25 for a sealed non record club version & $10-$15 for either a sealed saw marked or record club version. The American version was a big seller. Paul Stanley was quoted as saying that “People only bought the record because of the novelty of them taking their makeup off!”
*The German European Version with the ZZ logo is a bit scarcer and will command $25-$40 in EX or better condition.
*The Japanese False front OBI version is obtainable for $35- $50 and is a great addition to your collection. It features a Japanese KISS Biography, Lyrics & Song info all on a fold out sheer which slips into the album. This shows a KISS concert Photo Cover with the KISS members in makeup in boxes. Gene Simmons & Vinnie Vincent from the Lick it up era & Eric Carr & Paul Stanley from the Elder era. The false front obi was designed to keep the interest of the Japanese fans who loved the makeup. This also makes this the only copy of this album with Vinnie on the cover in make-up. (The Brazilian Creatures bootleg will be discussed at a later date.)
*Black Diamond is a KISS Unofficial release which corresponds to Lick it up. This record features a KISS rehearsal of the songs on Lick it up. The sound quality is excellent and it is nice to see how the creative song writing process evolves for this album. It usually sells for $35-$50 and is a must for any huge fan of this album.
One more Note, The song “Not for the Innocent" appears to have been left over from the Creatures sessions. An alternate version with Paul & Gene both singing exists & it totally blows away the Lick it up version.

Does any one have any info on htis Picture disc. it has started popping up. Is it a bootleg? I am dying to own one! I knew that this one is a bootleg. Both copies which have been for sale by independent sellere mentioned that they were warped. (Poor quality control) The Color is taken form the S. African Picture sleeve for a 7" Kiss release. Released only in Japan, The Originals II is EXTREMELY rare. It contains KISS' second set of 3 makeup recordings: Destroyer, Rock and Roll Over, and Love Gun in paper dust covers featuring their respective album cover art. These are held in a gatefold construction in the same manner as that used on the Japanese version of “Originals.” The Gatefold package for the Japanese version has higher folds & somewhat sturdier cardboard. This set is still prone to edgewear & ringwear. The cover features the same motif as the first Originals, but superimposed are the 4 faces of the members of KISS. If you look closely, you will realize that the faces are the same faces as in the KISS comic book where they are giving blood. This explains the weird expressions & Peter sticking his tongue out in Gene fashion. This set features four 12”x12” cardboard masks, one each for the members of the band, which features cutout holes to attach string to use. The record set contains an 8 page color booklet, with a KISS poster style centerfold. Additionally, the package contains a black and white lyric booklet for the albums with Japanese language biography of the band. The cover for this booklet is simply the album cover reproduced in black-and-white, with a 1976 picture of the band and the inclusion of a minor Japanese album discography. The obi is a traditional Fold around style obi. Value?- A complete mint copy of this album package is worth upwards of $300, but deals can be found and incomplete copies sell for substantially less. This is a hard set to find complete. Japanese dealers are prone to selling these on ebay. The masks & the obi are usually the first pieces missing. Yes, this is one of the holy grails & yes…you need to own this. NEXT, lets take a look at a regular studio release. KISS Lick it UP – The first studio album without makeup.

Hoping to capitalize upon the success of KISS Alive, Casablanca issued the limited-edition, specially release The Originals. This was a special repackaging of Kiss' first three records {1974's Kiss and Hotter Than Hell, and 1975's Dressed To Kill} The Originals has been out of print since the late '70s, but is still a much-sought-after collectible among Kiss fans/collectors.
The release has three major versions, US, Japanese & Canadian. All versions of “The Originals” include: a 16-page illustrated history of the band up to 1976, which is printed in sepia-style monochrome on 12”x12” paper with a glossy cover, a large color KISS Army sticker, and a sheet of 6 trading cards which originally had to be separated by the purchaser.
All three are similar, but they each have a few minor differences.

Canadian
The Canadian release is a sturdier traditional gatefold with the band logo emblazoned in Black & White on the inner cover. The three records feature different color labels with the Casablanca Script logo.

Japanese, USA 1st & 2nd Pressings
The Japanese & US versions feature a Folder like presentation with the albums & inserts tucked into a gatefold folder.
For the US & Japanese releases, each of the three records is housed in paper sleeves featuring the artwork of the respective album that they contain. The USA Cards were perforated, while the Japanese cards came a single sheet. Both US & Japanese releases also feature a White Label Promotional pressing of the set.

There were two printings in the US release. The cover of the second printing was labeled “Second Printing” in the top right corner. One main difference for the US versions can be found with the printed inner dust sleeves. On the original issue a matte (non-glossy, rough) stock was used for the sleeves, while the second printing used a glossy (smooth and shiny) stock. Both the front and rear covers of the original album covers were printed on these dust sleeves. The first pressing used the “Camels in the Desert” design while the second issue used the “Filmworks” label design,

The Japanese release includes a Japanese language, eight-page lyric booklet with biography of the band and, an obi strip that Folded over the top edge of the cover, rather than sliding on the left edge

Copies of the complete Japanese version of the album can sell for $150+, while complete regular US and Canadian versions sell for $75-$150 depending on pressing, condition, and degree of completeness. Promotional, or sealed versions sell for quite a bit more. The gatefold folder is notoriously flimsy & is prone to ringwear & edgewear. The sticker is prone to drying out and separating. My Friend is selling one of the rarest KISS releases on ebay!!!! The Argentina Hotter than Hell Re-issue. Apparently this was a promotional/re-issue using the Solo Poster Artwork to form the new stunning cover. This rates as a 9.5 in degree of difficulty to obtain. One day.........

pressing, from 1981. Originally issued in 1974 as "Hotter Than Hell". All prints

KISS SUPERSTAR / HOTTER THAN METAL

Yes, these are the same album with different packaging. Both Albums contain Sides One & Two of KISS Alive repeated in original order.

HOTTER THAN METAL is a single sleeve printed in Holland, with the identical Superstar print Vinyl from Italy. The best part is the Four Cover Pictures include Eric Carr in Full Fur and a Rather Drunk Looking Ace Frehley. This is one of the easier KISS imports to pick up. A copy in good condition should cost around $20. This is mostly for KISS purists who need to have everything.

KISS SUPERSTAR is a sweet Italian gateflod style pressing of this release. The cover features KISS in what appears to be the same photo-shoot as the cover to Hotter than Metal. Great details in Ace & Eric Carr's costumes. (KISS should have changed all four costumes, instead of having Ace, Paul & Gene in dynasty costumes with the new member.) The booklet is awesome. It features rare & famos KISS pics. It is too bad it is in Italian. I would love to be able to read it. This is a bit harder to find than HTM...A mint copy will cost $25 to $40 dollars. If you choose either of the two, this is the one to Collect.

I have been thinkng about Kiss holy Grails of Vinyl & the first that comes to mind is the Japanese Box set.

KISS The Originals 1974-1979 (1998 Japanese-only Limited Collector's Edition Box, it contains 9 releases.’Kiss’,’Hotter than hell’,’Dressed to kill’,’Alive’,’Destroyer’,’Rock and roll over’,’Love gun’,’Alive 2‘and ‘Dynasty’.9LP’s and ‘Alive’ and ’alive 2’ is double LP’s. 11 different coloured vinyl LP's. Also, a cool sheet of glossy colour stickers representing KISS singles released in Japan. Next are 6 picture infomation cards identical to the cards in the 1st Originals, & a 34-page 12" x 12" lyric booklet. This is all housed in a glossy Black Box. There also exists a duplicate set in a red box (1999) which is extremely harder to find. A mint Black box will run about $500-$600 before shipping & a mint red box will cost about twice that.

This is a nice set. The vinyl is a high quality pressing & the sound is excellent. All of the inserts are First Class making this a very desireable addition to any KISS collection.

Part of KISS VINYL collecting is searching out rare or unofficial releases. Some of these, such as "Stoned in Paris," "Destroys Aneheim," "First Kiss Long Island," or "Egos at Stake," have become vital components of any KISS related collection. The above website is put together by a friend in Europe. He does not sell any of the vinyl, but has put together a comprehensive catalog of KISS Unofficial Vinyl. Personally, I love many of the unofficial releases & consider them to be some of my most prized possessions. With that said.....

I break Kiss Vinyl into a few major categories.

#1 American Releases - Casablanca, Polygram,Mercury,Def Jam releases. These are the most sought after, especially original releases. The first series of Casablanca American releases in Blue, Camels, or Filmworks with original inserts are the most desireable. The re-pressings with barcodes, The record club editions ( RCA/BMGG), and the cut outs change the valur & desireability of each release. ( Canadian releases are too close to US collections to look at as collectable, except for the Canadian Originals, Destroyer & sealed canadian albums. )

Hello to all my friends. Todays post is a bit of a rant. I am sick of the over-inflated prices which people are reselling the Sonic Boom Vinyls for! Especially when they don't even have the vinyl in hand! We ordered a few sets & intend to sell them with a reasonable mark up & hopefully all of our best customers will get a set for a fair price.

By the way, the Argentina Hotter than Hell is an awesome album & one day, I hope to own one.
